The Great Pumpkin Carve will be taking place this week in Chadds Ford, PA! The event will take place on Thursday, October 24th and continue through Saturday, October 26th. At the three day annual event over 60 giant pumpkins will be on display, all carved by local artists. The pumpkins will be lit after the carving is completed and then displayed all three nights. Treat yourself to great food, live music, hayrides and a chance to win a raffle item. The fun begins this Thursday from 5pm to 9pm on the grounds of the Society’s Barn Visitors Center. Admission is $10.00 for adults 18 and older, $5.00 for ages 7 to 17; Ages 6 and under are free! Also, Chadds Ford Historical Society members are free with membership card. If you’re in the Chadds Ford area today head over to The John Chads House for the seventh annual Presidents’ Day celebration. Admission to the John Chads House is $5 for adults; members of the Chadds Ford Historical Society and children 12 and under are free. There will also be many exhibits and hands-on activities for ages 2 to adults over at the Barns Visitors Center, free of charge. Refreshments included. Listen to costumed interpreters as they tell the story when General Washington positioned his soldiers on the hillside next to the Chads House in 1777 while a nervous widow, Elizabeth Chads hid her silver spoons in her pocket.
Enjoy touring this stone mansion that survived almost 300 years and learn about its fascinating history. Don’t miss the opportunity to see bread baking in the beehive oven in the cellar kitchen. Visitors can walk along the scenic one-mile River Trail from the Chads House to the Brandywine River Museum.

The Chadds Ford Historical Society is hosting the fifth annual winter Plein Air event with over 30 juried artists from the Mid-Atlantic Region participating. An Exclusive Preview Party will be held on Saturday, February 2nd, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Preview ticket holders will be treated to a first look and sale of wet paintings. They will enjoy scrumptious hors d’oeuvres and wine while enjoying the gallery display of fine art. Then from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the Paint Out event will open to the general public so everyone will enjoy an evening of wine and cheese with the artists.
