Avoid driving when you’re tired. Be aware that some medications can cause drowsiness and make operating a vehicle very dangerous.
Always use caution when changing lanes. Cutting in front of someone, changing lanes too fast or not using your signals may cause an accident or upset other drivers.
Check the weather. It’s best to stay off the roads if there is a threat of flooding, snow, ice or heavy thunderstorms.
Stay focused on driving. Is the radio too loud? Passengers too rowdy? Are you also trying to eat or apply makeup? Be sure to take care of these things before beginning your journey.
Keep your distance. Refrain from tailgating – staying back a few feet could protect in an accident. If someone is tailgating you, let them pass.
You should never use a cell phone while driving. It can be very distracting and is a leading cause of accidents in the United States.
