The actress is seeking treatment for bipolar II disorder just after her husband Michael Douglas announced he had cancer. Catherine has been by Douglas’ side since he was diagnosed with throat cancer last fall. Bipolar II disorder, which, according to the Mayo Clinic, is less severe than bipolar I disorder, causes irritability and mood swings occurring as often as several times a day, or as seldom as a few times a year.
After dealing with everything going on and all the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check into a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her bipolar II disorder. Catherine’s upcoming films include “Playing the Field” and “Lay the Favorite.”
