Philadelphia Area: Heat Wave

AccuWeather.com reports a blazing heat wave will continue to grip portions of the Northeast through the end of the week. The heat will again challenge records, strain power grids and pose health hazards. The heat wave caused numerous record highs to be set on yesterday (Tuesday), and that will likely occur again today. Adding to the danger of the heat will be the presence of higher humidity. As a result temperatures will rise above actual temperatures therefore, people will become more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

The heat is something everyone should take very seriously. Health issues like heat exhaustion or even heat stroke can appear when temperatures reach the 90′s or higher. Your best defense against the high temperatures is staying hydrated, which means drinking plenty of water. It is best to take it easy and try not to over-exhaust yourself while outside in the extreme heat. New Health Reform Law Brings Scam

Even though the health care bill was just recently signed into law by President Obama, scam artists have wasted no time in using it to trick consumers into buying bogus health-related products and services. To avoid falling for these types of scams or others like it, here are some points to remember according to msn.com:

  1. Neither the State nor Federal government is going door-to-door to sell insurance;
  2. Neither the State nor Federal government is calling people on the phone to sell insurance;
  3. Beware of high pressure sales tactics using phrases such as limited-time offer or plans that are advertised to be necessitated by the new health insurance reform;
  4. If you are speaking with a person who claims to be a government representative and are uncertain of their identity, ask to see their credentials;

These are just a few steps in order to keep you safe against different scams. You should always be aware and never let people take advantage of you. For more information or questions visit our website at www.kimberleyvassal.com

Update: Health Insurance Coverage For Adult Children

A recent state law regarding health insurance for adult children in Pennsylvania was signed on June 10, 2009, by Gov. Edward G. Rendell. The state law is known as Health Insurance Coverage for Adult Children. This law gives you the option to extend health insurance coverage for your employee’ adult dependents through age 29 and end coverage when dependent turns 30.

This allows an adult dependent up to age 30 to remain covered by his or her parents’ group health insurance if the adult dependent:

  • is not married
  • has no dependents
  • resides in Pennsylvania(unless enrolled as full-time student in another state)
  • does not have other private health insurance coverage
  • is not enrolled in or eligible for government benefits

You have the option to add coverage for adult dependents any time during the year. For more information contact a Kimberley Vassal Insurance Agent today or by visiting our website, www.kimberleyvassal.com
